P&G Announces Accelerated New Vision for Sustainability

Below are my notes from a Greenbiz webinar for which P&G announced expanded Vision for Sustainability. More info from Joel Makover article here.

Overview
P&G reaches 4 billion consumers today and will increase to 5b in a few years
Presenter was Len Sauers, VP Sustainability


PG Vision
- Use 100% renewable energy for plants
- Use 100% renewable packaging
- Zero land fill waste
- Eco product design

Goals for 2020
(measured and reported publicly each year)

Products
- Replaced 25% of petro-based materials
- 70% of washing machine loads use cold water
- 20% packaging reduction
Operations
- 30% of renewable energy at plants
- <1% manufacturing waste
- 20% truck transport reduction volume

(note water is not specifically address here, but PG has other goals)

Working with WWF in 3 year partnership (WWF Assessments tools for sourcing materials and packaging)

Notes from Q&A
- PG strong believer in LCA
- Business benefits include improving "moment of truth" with skeptical consumers and enhanced employee retention/recruiting
